24 injured in a grisly road accident along Bungoma road

Twenty four people were admitted at the Bungoma Referral Hospital following a grisly road accident that occurred Monday evening at Nabukananachi area along the Chwele – Bungoma road.

The 3PM accident involved a matatu that was heading to Bungoma from Chwele and a pick up.

No person died in the accident that left eight women, one child and sixteen men nursing serious injuries.

An eyewitness, Juma Nyogesa  said that the driver of the pick up lost control after the front tire burst and swerved into the oncoming matatu causing a head on collision.

The driver of the pick up was on high speed and could not salvage the situation. However, he managed to escape with minor injuries.

Bungoma medical superintendent Sylvester Mutoro confirmed that they received twenty four casualties with serious injuries and that two of them in critical condition have been referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

Mutoro stated that the victims had deep cuts, broken limbs and severe fractures but the doctors were attending to them.

On phone, police have cautioned drivers plying the Chwele Bungoma road to be cautious while approaching the Mayanja area which is a black spot.

Police have also urged drivers not to over speed and carry excess passengers as the matatu was overloaded at the time of the accident.
