24 Kenyans test positive for the coronavirus, total now at 435

24 Kenyans have tested positive for the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 435.

The latest is the second highest number of cases confirmed in a day since the pandemic was first reported in Kenya.

The highest number was reported on April 2 when 29 people tested negative.

The latest cases are from 1195 tested samples and include 10 males and 14 females spread out across Nairobi and Mombasa.

7 of the new cases are from Kawangware while 10 are from Eastleigh in Nairobi: the remaining 5 from Mombasa.

The last two cases are from Kuria, Migori County; the patients have a recent history of travel.

At the same time, Kenya has lost another patient to the coronavirus.

The new fatality is a 51-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital on April 27.

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi revealed that the woman had an underlying condition.

The total number of fatalities now stands at 22.

Two patients have also been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 152.
