24 Somali nationals hospitalized in Mandera following Al-Shabaab attack

Twenty four people have been hospitalized in various hospitals in Mandera County following an attack by Al Shabaab in Bullahawa in Somalia.

Those injured in the 5.45 am attack includ seven Somalia National Army soldiers as well as 17 Somali nationals are currently receiving treatment at a Mandera hospital.

Mandera County Commander Fredrick Shisia said the attack took place two kilometers from the Kenyan border, causing disruptions within Mandera town including closure of schools, shops and even lack of transport.

The attack happened when over 200 Al Shabab terrorists overran the Bullahawa camp using suicide car bomb forcing the Somali soldiers at the base to try to retreat into the Kenyan side.

However, Kenya Defence Forces soldiers repelled the Al-Shabaab fighters forcing them to retreat deep into Somalian territory.
