25 arrested for flouting COVID-19 rules in Kuria West to be arraigned

25 people arrested for contravening COVID-19 rules in Kuria West sub county over the weekend will be charged at Kehancha law court on Monday.

Area police commander Cleti Kimaiyo said 17 out of the 25 suspects were arrested for not wearing masks in public.

Mr. Kimaiyo said those without masks were arrested during a crackdown on the Migori-Isebania road and also at Taragwiti market.

He said the other eight suspects were arrested for contravening curfew orders on Saturday night.

The arrest of the suspects comes amid concern over increasing numbers of people disregarding COVID-19 protocols.

Places of worship and the matatu sector are among the places which have been put on spot for disregarding COVID-19 rules

Some of the residents of Migori County who spoke to Radio Ramogi said there is a need for the people to take personal responsibility in the fight against COVID-19.

They also urged and the government to ensure enforcement of COVID-19 rules in the county.

Migori County has recorded over 1160 COVID-19 positive cases and 13 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.
