Homa Bay ex-councillors demand Ksh.2M each as sendoff package

Former councillors from Homa Bay who served in the defunct county council have filed a petition seeking to compel the county government to pay them a send-off package of Ksh.2million each.

In the petition, the 250 members of an organization dubbed Homa Bay County Councillor’s Forum, also want a monthly stipend of Ksh.80,000.

The officials say they deserve to be awarded for their services to the county between 1963 and 2013.

If their proposal is accepted, Homa Bay County will part with Ksh.20million every financial year.

The organization’s chairman Harrison Odiyo said they want the petition to be determined in two weeks.

He urged Homa Bay MCAs to urgently discuss the matter for approval.

Secretary of the forum George Ondiek echoed similar sentiments demanding that the county allocate the funds in the current financial year.

According to him, they performed their duties well during their tenure in the local government.

A member of their executive committee Ochieng’ Randere further appealed to political leaders to be considerate when debating the matter.

He intimated that any politician can find themselves in the position they are in so they should empathize with the situation.

Mr.Obat Obat, one of the former councilors, claimed that their counterparts from other counties are paid similar amounts and it is only in Luo Nyanza where they have been forgotten.
