250 tourists from Poland arrive in Mombasa
- Over 250 tourists from Poland landed at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa on Saturday.
- The Poland flight, Lot Polish Charter, will now fly Mombasa twice a week, translating to about 500 visitors to the Kenyan coast every week.
- The country has received 11,947 visitors from Poland up from 9,572 recorded in 2016.
Over 250 tourists from Poland landed in Mombasa on Saturday night aboard a polish airline — Lot Polish Charter.
The flight, which was received by senior government officials in conjunction with the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), landed at the Moi International Airport at around 8.35 pm.
It will be flying Mombasa twice a week, translating to about 500 visitors to the Kenyan coast every week.
Addressing journalists at the airport last night, Coast KTB Regional Manager Jonathan Mbiyu said Poland has continued to grow in market share of visitors into the country.
He said that last year the country received 11,947 visitors from Poland up from 9,572 recorded in 2016, marking a 24 .8 percent increase.
For the last eight months (January -August), arrivals from the market was 7,504, up from 6,782 visitors in same period last year, translating to an increase of 10.6 percent, according to Jonathan Mbiyu.
Mr. Mbiyu said the government is eyeing a joint promotion with travel agents to increase demand for travel.
This comes as the tourism sector last week welcomed the extension of the Charter Incentive Programme.
Set out in 2016, the incentive programme was aimed at supporting the recovery of international tourism to the Kenyan coast.
In return, the charter airlines enjoy a waiver on landing fees, and a passenger subsidy of Ksh.3000 per seat filled for a period of two-and-a-half years.
This was expected to boost tourist charter flights from the traditional source markets of the United Kingdom and larger Europe. The charter applies if the aircraft lands at either Moi International Airport, Mombasa, or at the Malindi Airport.
