26-year-old one-shirt gardener wins in Jubilee primaries

A 26-year-old ‘one shirt’ gardener, Joakim Mwangi, is the Jubilee flag bearer for Ngoliba Ward in Thika Constituency, Kiambu County.

Mwangi, who is a gardener at Ngoliba in Thika, won the Jubilee ticket in the just concluded party primaries.

He terms himself as a ‘village project’ after getting a lot of aid from the friendly residents who played a very big role in his campaigns.

He said that during his campaigns, he would borrow as little as Ksh 20 after spending all he had in the campaigns.

Mr Mwangi said his financial status in the society prompted him to have a particular shirt that he frequently worn and this led to his opponents nicknaming him ‘kijana wa shirt moja’ (the one-shirt guy).

He attributed his victory to the residents’ support adding that he is hopeful of winning the coming General Election.

He thanked the residents for their support including ‘wazee wa kijiji’ (village elders), who he said assisted him register as a Jubilee aspirant.
