27 students killed as bus loses control, crashes

At least 34 people, among them 27 students and three teachers have died after a bus ferrying learners lost control and crashed in Tanzania’s Arusha area.

According to Arusha Region Police Commander, Charles Mkumbo, the bus was ferrying the students from a primary school in Arusha for an examination Saturday, May 6 when the accident occurred.

Mr Mkumbo said that four other people sustained injuries following the accident at Karatu, Arusha and were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.

Police have already recovered the bodies that were trapped in the wreckage.

The bus, according to Mr Mkumbo, struck some trees killing the 34 on the spot.
