3 Dead In Nigeria Bomb Blast

The Saturday blast comes days after 118 people were left dead in twin bombings, blamed on Boko Haram militants, at a crowded market in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

Police said the blast happened near an open-air TV viewing centre where people were watching the Champions League football final.

However nobody has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Confirming the incident, Police commissioner Chris Olakpe told AFP news agency that the bomber's improvised explosive device detonated prematurely.
"The target was the (football) viewing centre.” said Olakpe

Football is Nigeria's national sport and top European teams; however, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has in the past described football and music as a way of distracting Muslims from the region.

The UN Security Council has authorized sanctions against the Islamist group.
