Three dead in tragic road accident

Three people were this morning killed on the spot in a grisly road accident involving three lorries along the Isinya-Kajiado road.

The accident reportedly occurred after a truck that was towing another one, belonging to DRICON Transporters SACCO, developed a mechanical problem and stalled, forcing the drivers to stop and assess the problem.

Witnesses told Citizen Digital that an oncoming lorry rammed into the two lorries, killing the men on the spot and injuring the driver.

The lorry that is said to have been speeding at the time and its driver was allegedly drunk.

Isinya OCPD Stephen Weda, who arrived at the scene of the accident, however, declined to confirm that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver of the lorry was rushed to Kajiado Level 5 Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Elsewhere, an elderly man was today (Wednesday) knocked down by a speeding lorry along Geoffrey Kamau Way in Nakuru Town.

The unidentified man was crossing the road when the speeding lorry hit him, killing him on the spot.

The lorry driver saw the man too late and despite applying emergency brakes; the lorry could not stop in time to save his life. The driver escaped soon after the accident.

The mid morning accident caused a huge traffic snarl-up along the usually busy highway as police took measurements of the scene of the accident.

Eyewitnesses told Citizen Digital that the lorry was speeding at the time of the accident, adding that they had tried to flag it down but the driver ignored them.

They body of the deceased was taken to the Nakuru County Government mortuary as investigations continue.
