3 thugs busted in Ol-Kalou, one gets away

Police officers have arrested three suspected robbers and managed to recover a stolen car in Ol-Kalou, Nyandarua County

Led by Gilbert Njoroge, who is said to be a notorious criminal, the suspects robbed a local who had just withdrawn Ksh200, 000 from a bank in Gilgil.

Nyandarua Central OCPD, Wilson Kosgei, said the suspects escaped the scene in a Toyota Allion vehicle of Registration Number KCE 117U.

However, police officers from Gilgil were immediately informed of the incident and they pursued the suspects for several hours.

The criminals were apprehended after sources tipped off the police that the Toyota Allion had been spotted speeding towards Ol-Kalou.

After being tipped off, Kosgei said his team alerted police officers in Ol-Kalou town who ambushed the criminals.

Realising that they had been spotted, the four suspects drove towards the Ol-kalau bus terminus.

This, Kosgei explains, is when they tried to get away: “They jumped off from the vehicle and run in different directions.”

Poised as passengers, two suspects boarded a matatu that was heading to Nairobi.

Speaking while addressing the press, Kosgei said the police officers got hold of the suspects who were in the Matatu after it was stopped by the traffic officer.

Once more, they relied on information from the public to apprehend the third suspect: “We also arrested the one who had hidden in a mosque after we received information from the wanaichi.”

Kosgei applauded residents for their vigilance and cooperation.

The other suspects were identified as James Musyoka Malelu from Makueni’s Mavivye village, Joseph Ndichu Mbugua of Karuri’s Kiambu County and Patrick Nzioki from Machakos.

The four are have been remanded at Gilgil police station as police officers carried out further investigations.

One suspect, however, got away.

Kosgei stated that his officers are currently hunting down the suspect who managed to escape. He said that the fugitive is armed and dangerous. Further, the police boss added that officers are determined to recover the stolen cash.
