3 Top Cops Found Unfit To Hold Office

The officers ranking Senior Deputy Commissioners were found unfit to hold office after the recent vetting.

Peter Elaini Eregai, Francis Omondi Okonya and the Director of Police Reforms Jonathan Koskei failed the vetting process conducted by NPSC several weeks ago.

Those who were found competent to continue serving in the service include Kiganjo Police Training College Commandant Peter Kavila, General Service Unit (GSU) William Atsuye Saiya, Director of Small Arms Secretariat John Patrick Owino and Omar Abdi of the Administration Police training College.

NPSC Chairperson Johnston Kavuludi, who announced the results today, said the vetting exercise is meant to restore public confidence in the police service.

Kavuludi said the initial phase that took place was the vetting for the 7 senior officers in the police service.

He said the next phase will be of 25 officers of Deputy Commissioner’s rank which will take place on January 7th 2014.

The NPSC chairman also said the third phase will be of 200 senior assistant commissioners of police.

The vetting exercise is being carried out by a panel which includes Dr. Francis Sang, retired CID Director, Joseph Kaguthi, long-serving administrator and former Permanent Secretary,Captain (Rtd).

Others are Simiyu Werunga, a security expert, Mrs. Bernedette Nzioki, immediate former Secretary, Public Service Commission,Rev. Mike Harris, former member of National Taskforce on Police Reforms (The Ransley led Taskforce) and Professor. Kimani Njogu, a renowned scholar.

The vetting exercise seeks to improve the quality of output in the National Police Service Commission by ensuring that bad elements are ejected.

About 80,000 officers drawn from the administration police the regular and General Service Unit will be vetted within a period of three years.
