30-year-old man buried alive in Kirinyaga

A 30-year-old man was on Friday 29th buried alive after a pit he was digging caved in on him at Njegas secondary school in Kirinyaga County.

According to Kirinyaga Central OPCD Yaya Chome, the deceased, Joseph Kangangi, was digging a 20 feet septic tank alongside a colleague who was charged with collecting soil from the top of the pit while the deceased dug.

Efforts to rescue him however turned futile as rescuers had a difficult time retrieving the body of the deceased which was already 20 feet under.

The OCPD  urged locals to be on look out for loose soil in the area and to always put blocks when digging pits.

The retrieved body was taken to Kerugoya hospital mortuary.
