31 applicants shortlisted for IEBC commissioners’ positions

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel has shortlisted 31 applicants to fill the six commissioners’ positions that will be left vacant once the current office holders vacate.

Those shortlisted are: Vincent Kimutai Kimosop, Johnson Masai Changeiywo, Kizito Okola Nyongesa, Ismael Buro Hassan, Zephaniah Okeyo Aura, Ibrahim Wako Boru, Philip Atswenje Kitaa, Anne Wanja Kariuki, Samuel Kiti Lewa, Cyprian Orina Nyamwamu, Shem Odhiamno Ochola, Faith Nziku Kasiva, Samuel Kimeu, Hilary Kilingi Kioko, and Mboya Molu.

Others are Consolata Nkatha Bucha, Oliver Kisaka Simiyu, Janet Chepngeno Kirui, Wilbert Kipsang Arap Kibitok Choge, Christopher Lekakeny Twala, Roselyn Kwamboka Akombe, Jonathan Letipalei Mwachanya, Paul James Mbaga, Margaret Wanjala Mwachanya, Jiilo Alexi Kasse, George Kimathi Eliphas, Wafula Okumu, Paul Kibiwott Kurgat, Patrick Kamoyani, Abdi Yakub Guliye and Simeon Pkiyach Pkatey.

The list also included: John Kangu Mutakha, Margaret Wambui Ngugi Shava, Roseline Odhiambo, David Mukii Mereka and Kiprop David Malakwen, who were among 13 applicants for shortlisted for the IEBC chairman position two weeks ago.

The five, will, however, not be interviewed for the commissioners’ positions should they be interviewed for the chairman slots.

The interviews, to be held in public, will take place at the County Hall Building in Nairobi.

Once nominated for approval, the candidates will appear before the committee of National Assembly for vetting.

The decision to overhaul the commission was reached at a joint select committee encompassing legislators from both Jubilee and Opposition coalition CORD.

The committee was formed after a month-long protest by CORD to push for the removal of IEBC commissioners over alleged ineptitude to hold the next elections.
