36 Immigrants Arrested In Naivasha

The 36 Somalis including 30 men and 6 women were arrested at a road block along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Also arrested were eight minors who had accompanied their parents on the journey from Nairobi to Kakuma refugee camp.

The foreigners confessed that they were refugees and they were fleeing the ongoing crackdown in Nairobi that was targeting foreigners.

According to Shariff Abubakar, one of the suspects, the Eastleigh area has become too hostile for foreigners without legal documents.

Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok confirmed the arrests noting that all the suspects did not have permits or travel documents.

Kortok said that the refugees will be arraigned in court facing various charges and the crackdown in the town will continue.

In the last couple of days, the government has heightened its crackdown on illegal immigrants in the country following an increase of terror attacks.
