36 Kenyan fishermen detained in Tanzania to know their fate

36 Kenyan fishermen detained in Tanzania are set to appear in court amid calls for President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene.

The men who will be appearing in court for the second time, were allegedly arrested for trespass and detained after they failed to raise Ksh.1.2 million bail demanded by the Tanzania authorities.

According to Kibro Beach Management Unit Chairman Samwel Magese, the fishermen will know their fate after being in custody for the last two weeks.

Mr. Magese claimed the Kenyan citizens have been subjected to torture by Tanzania authorities since they were arrested.

He asked locals leaders and President Kenyatta to intervene and secure their freedom.

Meanwhile, Migori County fishermen have appealed to the Kenyan government to intervene and solve challenges they are exposed to when carrying out fishing in Lake Victoria.

According to the fishermen, the government has given a deaf ear to their grievances even after many cases of alleged torture and exploitation were reported.
