36-year-old man slashes wife to death in Ndhiwa

Police in Homa Bay have detained a 36-year-old suspect accused of killing his wife at Kodaa village in Ndhiwa.

Dancan Ochieng’ was arrested on Sunday after reports that he had killed his wife, a 33-year-old Maurine Akoth in her sleep.

He was saved by officers from Kobodo police post from his irate neighbours who were baying for his blood.

Preliminary investigations say the deceased had one deep cut on her throat.

Witnesses who found her lifeless body after the incident said her beddings were soaked in blood.

Assistant chief Goyo Sub-Location Tom Rapado told the media that the suspect attacked his wife at midnight on Sunday, slashing her throat with a machete and leaving her for the dead.

He further explained that the suspect who is mentally ill had previously fallen out with his wife who had returned to her parents house.

The deceased was however convinced by her daughter to return home and went back to her matrimonial home on Thursday.

Last week, the Ministry of Health noted that incidences of domestic violence had spiked since the daily dusk to dawn curfew was imposed.

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi asked couples to resort to other means of solving disputes that does not include violence.
