4-storey building collapses in Kariobangi South

At least 16 families were rendered homeless after a four-storey building collapsed on Saturday morning in in Nairobi’s Kariobangi South estate.

No one was injured during the incident as all residents had been evacuated from the building before it crumbled.

Eyewitnesses said the building began trembling at around 8 pm last night.

The evacuation process facilitated by officials from Red Cross and the Nairobi County Government focused on human and as such property of unknown value was buried under the debris.

According to the secretary to the National Buildings Inspectorate Moses Nyakiongora, the building whose construction begun in 2009 but stalled in 2015, had not been done up to standard.

He further added that a total of 11 houses in Nairobi have been marked for demolition.
