40 arrested for lacking toilets

Forty families from Nduguto, Akachiu and Kanuni wards have been arrested by the public health department in Igembe South Sub-County for lacking pit latrines at their homes.

Addressing the press in his office, the public health officer in Igembe South, Mr Stephen Mutua, said that it was ironical that since independence some families still don’t have toilets at their homes.
He added that the exercise would go on until each family gets a toilet as they sensitize the public on their health and the importance of latrines in the avoidance of diseases such as cholera.

The health officer further warned those who do not have latrines to make sure they make the necessary arrangements before the officers reach their homes.
