40 Ethiopian aliens arrested in Meru

Police in Meru are holding forty Ethiopian aliens who were alleged to be on their way to South Africa through Kenya.

The Wednesday night arrests were carried out by the Administration Police officers following a tip off from members of the public.

Buuri AP Commandant Patrick Mbuthia said that they received information from members of the public that there were people hiding in an abandoned house in Mwonyone village.

Mbuthia says that police officers surrounded the building and it took them more than two hours to arrest all the aliens.

Police also managed to recover at least 28 cell phones that are now being used by detectives to trace their contacts in Kenya.

Mbuthia thanked the members of public for cooperating with the police saying that if it were not for them it would be difficult for the police to do the job.

He urged residents to continue giving information to the police so as to help curb crime.

The 40 are being held at the Meru Town Police Station and will be arraigned in court.

This comes a week after another group of 80 aliens were arrested in Laare Maua, Meru County and were being ferried in a General Service Unit (GSU) truck.

However, the driver of the lorry escaped.
