40-year-old man arrested with elephant tusks worth Ksh.5.4M remanded

A 40-year-old man who was arrested last week with elephant tusks weighing 54kg with a street value of Ksh.5.4M has been remanded until December 21, 2020.

The accused, Joseph Mugini, told a Migori court that he suffers from several health complications including high blood pressure hence requested for a bond which was however disallowed.

Migori Law Courts Magistrate Moses Obiero Oyoko, in his ruling, directed that the accused be remanded until next week when his bond application will be heard and determined.

The accused, who was charged with three counts, pleaded guilty to count one and two but denied count three.

Mugini was arrested on December 12, 2020 by a police officer who posed as a buyer of the elephant tusks at Gwitembe area in Kuria East sub county, Migori County.
