400 Kiambu youth graduate with technical skills

Kiambu County Women Representative, Anne Nyokabi, presided over the graduation ceremony of 400 unemployed youth as they displayed their acquired skills and expertise at the Thika Technical Institute. The youth were among the beneficiaries of the Ksh 5.4M allocated to Women Representatives in all the 47 counties.

Nyokabi said she chose to utilize her funds in helping the disadvantaged in the society saying many youth in her county were in dire need for short courses which would help them self-employ.

“All of them have graduated at a grade three level and they will be ready to do the final exam in November and December,” Nyokabi told Citizen Digital.

“By enabling youth employ themselves, we are moving closer to achieving the jubilee government manifesto of creating one million artisan jobs and as developing country we require technical skills more than ever.”

Among the courses they undertook were carpentry, masonry, welding, cookery and catering, plumbing, sewing, tailoring and dressmaking, painting, motor-vehicle mechanical engineering and electrician training among others.

“We would encourage people in leadership especially those who would want to partner in issues of education to focus on the technical training skills. These are the courses that will allow the over 11 million unemployed youth in this country to be able to put food on their tables,” she added.

According to their trainers, the youth gained the necessary skills and are now experts in their respective fields as demonstrated by their wares.
