41 students injured after fire breaks out St. Josephs Girls Kitale

At least 41 students have been rushed to hospital following a fire incident at St. Josephs Girls High School, Kitale on Tuesday night.

The fire which is reported to have started at around 8pm damaged a section of the dormitories and razed property estimated to be worth thousands of shillings.

Dr. Dennis Nyangingi from the Kitale Level Four Hospital said a majority of the students are likely to be discharged on Wednesday.

“We have received 41 students from St. Joseph Girls High School after a fire incident; they inhaled the fumes but we managed to stabilise most of the. We have three or four still in bad condition they are recuperating in the wards,” he said.

According to one of the students, they were alerted about the fire after they heard screams from their colleagues.

“We were having our evening meal then we went to class and at around 7:50pm we heard shouts made from the Form Four block. We ran out to see what was happening and discovered fire had broken out at the dormitory section,” said one of the students.
