41 suspects linked to political criminal gangs arrested in Mombasa

Forty-one suspects who are allegedly linked to political criminal gangs have been arrested in Mombasa County after security agencies raided a residential house in northern part of the coastal town.

Speaking to the media in Mombasa, Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa said that those arrested are youths from neighboring countries and some from the various parts of the country.

Marwa added that the suspects, who were arrested in Shanzu area, were confined in a private house where they were secretly being treated with refreshments and food.

The regional boss further indicated that the suspects are part of hired political gangs whose agenda is to cause mayhem in Mombasa County ahead of August 8th polls.

While declining to name the police station the suspects were being held at, Marwa claimed that the gang is being funded by politicians to intimidate opponents during or after the General Election.

He, however, revealed that several legislators within Mombasa are currently under investigation for allegedly recruiting militia gangs to cause mayhem during the election period.
