Meru woman, 41, kills baby, blames Form Three lover

A 41-year-old woman was arrested by police in Imenti North, Meru County for allegedly killing her eight-month-old baby.

The woman, only identified as Mwendwa from Murungene village was detained at Laare Police Station after being accused of strangling the infant to death and keeping it in a washing basin in her house.

Confirming the incident, the area Chief, Matundu Murungi told Citizen Digital that he was informed of the heinous act by members of the village.

According to the residents, Ms Mwendwa blamed her Form Three lover for committing the act, saying he had been reprimanding her for giving birth to the child, prompting her to kill it.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the said Form Three lover, who escaped upon hearing of Ms Mwendwa’s arrest.

“Someone called one of our sergeants and told him that a woman had killed a baby, we took action immediately and arrested her,” said Mr Murungi.

“We are using this as a warning that killing is wrong, you rather take your baby to the church or an orphanage than kill it.”

She will be arraigned in Maua Law Court on Monday, November 13.
