49 people are currently under quarantine, according to the Nandi County Health CEC Ruth Koech.

The lot which includes business people and athletes recently returned to the country from Qatar, China, Saudi Arabia, Italy, U.K., U.S., Hungary, Australia, Ethiopia among other countries.

They will be in quarantine for the requisite 14 days and will be required to use the county’s toll free numbers should they exhibit symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

Although the county has not reported any case of the new coronavirus, it has put up several measures to combat spread of the COVID-19 disease.

So far, the county has ordered the closure of all hotels, salons, barbershops, open air markets and has outlawed all public gatherings.

The county has also set up two isolation centres: one at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital and the second one at the Nandi Hills Sub County Hospital to deal with cases that may arise.

A committee which is handling the situation has also embarked on putting up 1-meter distance marks in all shops, supermarkets, market place and passenger terminals to enforce social distancing.

So far, Kenya has confirmed 38 cases of the new coronavirus.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the new COVID-19 infections were part of 81 suspected cases tested at various laboratories in the country within the past 24 hours.

The 7 new cases, all of which he said were recorded in Nairobi County, include 4 Kenyans, 2 Congolese nationals and 1 Chinese national.
