5 Dead, 4 Injured In Turkana Raid

5 people died including 2 officers and 3 herders during the Friday raid.

Four other people sustained injuries and more than eight cattle shot by stray bullets during the fire exchange between raiders and Kenya Police Reserves at the battle ground in Kaputir Forest.

Residents of the two villages, Kapelbok and Kaputir, in Turkana south are living in fear because of the frequent attacks by Pokot raiders.

Some villagers have moved out of the villages to safer places like Kalemngorok and Lokichar villages.

The 1100 animals including goats, sheep and cows have not been recovered to date.

It is believed that the animals were driven to Kacheliba, Pokot County.

Members of Turkana County assemblies lead by Katilu Ward, MCA James Abei have come together and condemned the frequent attacks that are being perpetrated by Pokot raiders.

Abei stated that a disarmament exercise took place in Nakwomoru two weeks ago when an Administration Police was killed and his gun stolen by unknown people in Nakwomoru village.

Members of Turkana County Assembly have complained that the national government is providing security discriminatively when it comes to Turkana people.

Three weeks ago armed Pokot raiders ambushed and raided Kakong villages in Turkana South killing 3 people.

The raiders then escaped with more than 2000 livestock.
