5 family members killed in grisly Kianugu accident
- According to Nyandarua North OCPD Timon Odingo, the car was being driven at high speed.
- On reaching the Kianugu blackspot, one of its tyres burst causing it to collide with the matatu.
- In January this year, a similar accident occurred at the same spot and eight family members were killed.
5 people died and three others seriously injured after another Kianugu accident in Ndaragwa area on Thursday evening.
The accident involved a personal car which was coming from Nyeri and a Nissan matatu belonging to 2NK Sacco.
All the five passengers who were on-board the small vehicle — the driver, two women and two children, died.
Three were killed on the spot while two died on the way to Nyahururu Referral Hospital.
According to Nyandarua North OCPD Timon Odingo, the car was being driven at high speed.
“On reaching the Kianugu blackspot, one of its tyres burst causing it to collide with the matatu and roll several times,” he said.
The 2NK matatu had which was headed to Nyeri from Nyahururu had three people on board.
They were rushed to the Nyahururu Referral Hospital for treatment.
Ndaragwa Central MCA Mwangi Maitai was among the first people to arrive at the scene and called an ambulance for the victims.
He has called on the relevant authorities to ensure that speed bumps are erected on the road to dissuade drivers from operating at high speed and causing another Kianugu accident.
In January this year, a similar incident occurred at the same spot and eight family members were killed in the Kianugu accident.
