5 Prisoners Escape from Murang’a Police Cell

This follows the escape by the 5 men from Kandara Law Courts on Wednesday under mysterious circumstances.

The padlock and keys to the cell in which the remandees had been detained before the break out have disappeared and have not been traced so far.

Murang'a AP Commandant Josephat Kinyua said the escapee were under a court orderly Corporal Richard Longori of Kandara Police Station.

Kinyua identified the inmates as 23 year old Laban Njoroge Kamau who is a conductor from Kabati and who had been arrested in connection to a kidnapping case, Patrick Nyoike Mburu from Thika who was charged with malicious damage to property, 27 year old John Wainaina, 24 year old Kabati Isaac N. Ngari from Githumu and 18 year old Anthony Ngugi Ng'ang'a from Kibuu who had escaped law custody.

The AP boss said security agents are on a mission to arrest the suspects.

He urged members of the public to volunteer any information that may lead to the apprehension of the suspects.

He also warned Kenyans against helping the criminals as they would later turn against them.

Kinyua said the orderly who was guarding the prisoners had been arrested.

The corporal is set to appear in court to answer to charges of aiding suspects to escape.
