52-year-old man dies in night inferno

A 52–year– old man died in Mtongu-ini village, Sagana Sub-location in Kirinyaga County when his home caught fire on Sunday night.

Peter Ndege and four other horticulture farmers were asleep in the rental home when the tragic incident occurred.

According to the four farmers, one of the inhabitants of the house accidentally set off the fire when he woke up to take some water at night.

Thirsty, the farmer mistook a bottle of petrol for water. Upon realising his mistake, the farmer dropped the bottle and some petrol in the room.

The fuel caught fire when it came in contact with the petrol, and the four escaped death by a whisker.

Sadly, Ndege did not make it as he was asleep when the fire broke out.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the house had been razed to the ground.

Ndege’s sister, Margaret Wanjiru Kimandu said that her brother and the four men had stored farm material and petrol in the house.

Speaking with Citizen Digital, Ndia Member Of Parliament, Stephen Ngare advised the residents to avoid sleeping in the same room with their farm materials.

“The police at Sagana police station have launched investigations to find out exactly what happened. However, it is important to remember that you should not sleep with such materials in your homes,” he said.
