Man, 55, collapses and dies in Mwingi town

A 55-year-old man collapsed and died on the Mwingi-Garissa road on Sunday.

Justus Kavindu is said to have been walking towards Garissa stage with his daughter when he started complaining of chest pains and difficulty breathing.

“We were outside Co-operative Bank Mwingi branch when he lay down on the ground in pain,” the daughter Teresia said.

He died a few minutes later.

Witnesses said they saw the man suddenly fall to the ground and rushed to the scene to find out what was wrong.

Joyce Mwende told Citizen Digital that she helped Teresia call her mother to inform her what had happened.

She also asked whether the man had a history of epilepsy or any other disease but was told that he did not.

Joseph Mutua, who had also rushed to the scene, called the police.

Officers arrived moments later and took the body to Mwingi Level IV Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Medical officers said there were no visible physical injuries.

The incident is said to have caused anxiety among Mwingi residents with Sub-county Police Commander Peter Mutuma saying investigations are underway to establish cause of death.
