6 Family Members, Neighbor Attacked By Hyena In Laikipia

The victims were attacked at their home in Mifugo village in Laikipia West district while they were asleep.

Nemaita Lengolyan, a victim of the attack said a hyena invaded their manyatta at around 2:00 a.m after its attempt to eat some goats from a shed in one of the homesteads failed.

Residents say they heard dogs barking for a very long time but they paid no mind.

Lengolyan together with her four children aged 13,10,7 and 4 sustained head, arm and leg injuries.

Ngumai Lolotope, a neighbour who had rushed to assist Lengolyan’s family was also attacked by the animal.

Neighbours however responded, overpowered the hyena and killed it after it had taken cover in one of the houses.
