Eight killed, 43 houses razed down in Kibra inferno

Eight people have been confirmed dead following an inferno that gutted the Silanga slums in Highrise Ward in Kibra on Friday night.

According to Kilimani OCPD Michael Michiri, the 1am incident has left residents counting huge losses since nothing was salvaged when the 43 houses burnt down.

Michiri further said that the fire is suspected to have been caused by a stove that exploded in one of the houses but indicated that they have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the inferno.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who has visited the affected families affected by the fire promised to help them rebuild.

Sonko has also warned that landlords who have constructed houses along road reserves will have their buildings demolished, saying they hinder fire rescue teams from getting to fire accident scenes.
