Nairobi County officials in books tender case released on Ksh.300K bail

Six Nairobi County officials were on Monday before the anti-corruption court where they pleaded not guilty to corruption related charges.

Appearing before court, the six; Raphael Mwinzi Maluki, Jacob Ngwele Muvengei, Adah Awuor Onyango, Philomena Kavinya Nzuki, James Kariuki Kaguma and Fredrick Macharia Mwangi were charged in connection with a tender for the supply of books worth Ksh.997,926 that were never delivered.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji on Friday directed for the immediate arrest of the six over irregular awarding of tenders and payments at the Nairobi County Assembly.

Despite the prosecution’s prayers to have them denied bail, the court freed the accused persons on a cash bail of Ksh.300,000 each.

They were also ordered to deposit their passports in court and barred from accessing their place of work unless with authority from the Nairobi County government.

The accused were further directed not to contact any witnesses in the case.
