6 students arrested over fire at ChulaimboSecondary School in Kisumu

Police in Kisumu West sub-county have arrested six students from Chulaimbo Secondary School following a fire incident on Saturday night.

Confirming the arrests, Kisumu West OCPD Wilston Mwakio said the boys are suspected to be behind the torching of two dormitories in the school.

The burnt dormitories reportedly housed at least 100 students each.

Area sub-county Education Officer Albert Langat further stated that the school had been closed indefinitely.

Mr. Langat added that no student was injured during the inferno.

Speaking to Ramogi Radio on phone, the Education Officer placed the total cost of damage caused by fire at approximately Ksh.3 million.

He also warned that such incidents by students would be treated as crime and will be met with the full force of the law.

According to Mr. Langat, the school’s Board of Management will meet on Tuesday to decide when the school will reopen.
