At least seven people died and several others were injured on Tuesday afternoon after a matatu collided with a truck at Mlango Tatu area on the Eldoret – Nakuru highway.

Confirming the 2:30p.m incident, Rift Valley Traffic Commander Ziro Arome said the accident occurred when the driver of the truck headed to Nakuru from Eldoret was attempting to overtake other vehicles on the road.

Mr. Arome added that the truck then came into a head-on collision with the matatu whose driver has been identified as Joseph Kiraitu Githaiga.

“Due to the impact of the accident, both drivers died instantly and five other passengers were seriously injured,” he said.

The survivors were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
