7 dead as coronavirus infections rise to 38,713

Kenya has recorded 184 new cases of the novel coronavirus from 4,700 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health in a statement sent to media houses said the cases include 110 males and 74 females aged between 2 months and 88 years.

Out of the cases, 170 are Kenyan nationals while 14 are foreigners.

The new cases push the country’s total caseload to 38,713 and the cumulative total of tests done so far to 552,646.

The cases are distributed across the country as follows:  Nairobi 58, Mombasa 22, Kisumu 20, Nakuru 13, Kericho 13, Trans Nzoia 8, Laikipia 7, Machakos 7, Uasin Gishu 6, Narok 6, Kisii 6, Kiambu 4, Kwale 4, Homabay 3, Bomet 2, Embu 2, West Pokot 1, Makueni 1, Nandi 1 and Siaya 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 58 cases in Nairobi, are from Starehe and Westlands (7) cases each, Langata (6), Embakasi Central and Makadara (5) cases each, Embakasi East (4), Dagoretti North, Kibra and Ruaraka (3) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Kamukunji, Kasarani and Roysambu (2) cases each, Mathare (1) case.

In Mombasa, the 22 cases are from Mvita (8), Jomvu (7), Kisauni (5), Changamwe and Nyali (1) case each. In Kisuriu, the 20 cases are from Kisumu Central (9), Kisumu East (4), Kisumu West (5) and Nyando (2).

In Nakuru, the 13 cases are from Naivasha (8), Nakuru East (4), and Nakuru West (1).

The 13 cases in Kericho are from Ainamoi while the the 8 cases in Trans Nzoia are from Kiminini (6), Endebess and Saboti (1) case each.

In Laikipia, the 7 cases are from Laikipia West (6) and Laikipia East (1), while in Machakos, the 7 cases are from Athi River and Machakos Town (2) cases each, Kangundo, Masinga and Matungulu (1) case each.

The 6 cases in Uasin Gishu, are from Ainabko and Kesses (2) cases each, Moiben and Turbo (1) case each.

Narok’s 6 cases are all from Narok North while the 6 cases in Kisii, are from Bonchari and Kitutu Chache South (2) cases each, Bomachoge- Borabu and Nyaribari-Chache (1) case each.

In Kiambu, the 4 cases are from Kiambu Town (3) and Gatundu South (1).

In Kwale, the 4 cases are from Lunga Lunga (6) and Matuga (1) while in Homabay, the (3) cases are from Homabay Town (2) and Rachuonyo North (1).

In Bomet the 2 cases are from Bomet Central and Bomet East (1) case each, while in Embu the 2 cases are all from Manyatta.

The case in West Pokot is from West Pokot, the case in Makueni, is from the Township, the case in Nandi, is from Chesumei, and the case in Siaya is from Bondo.

Kenya has also recorded 115 new recoveries; 67 from the home-based care program and 48 from hospitals across the country.

At the same time, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 718 after 7 patients succumbed between Wednesday and Thursday.
