Seven fishermen from Remba Island in Suba North constituency are detained at Sota beach by Tanzania security personnel following an arrest on Sunday evening over alleged border trespass.
The fishermen were apprehended and their four boats impounded when they were fishing on the waters of Lake Victoria near Remba Island.
Homa Bay County Beach Management Units Edward Oremo claimed that the Tanzanian security personnel had earlier impounded 21 fishing boats, but later released 17.
Oremo added that the security officials also took fishing gears and their catch worth millions of shillings during the attack.
He appealed to the government to liaise with Tanzania on how the fishermen can be released as soon as possible.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum confirmed the incident, adding that his office is working to ensure the fishermen and their boats are freed.
