7 suspects arrested in connection with 14 Riverside terror attack

As the country comes to terms with the aftermath of the 14 Riverside terror attack, police say they have arrested seven suspects believed to have aided the four terrorists in planning and executing the terror s attack.

According to Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, one of the suspects, a woman identified as Violet Kemunto, was arrested in Mucatha, Ruaka, Kiambu County at a house where one of the attackers is said to have been living.

In Nairobi’s Eastleigh area, police arrested a man believed to have been a key financier of the group that attacked the Dusit complex

The suspects were taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters as investigations into the attack that killed 14 people pick up pace.

One of the terrorists in the 14 Riverside terror incident was living in one of the houses at Guango Estate in Mucatha, parting with a monthly rent of Ksh.40,000, according to police reports shared with Citizen TV.

Officers who stormed house No. E9 where the attacker had been residing discovered a hole in which a cache of weapons was stashed.

A witness, who claims to have been living next-door, described the attacker as a friendly man who was cordial with his neighbors but was rarely in the house.

“He would normally say Hi to everyone but no one knew him well since he was always in and out of the house,” a witness told Citizen TV.

The car which was used in the attack and abandoned near the DusitD2’s  gate was recognized by neighbours who called the police following a circulation of images from the attack.

The house in question has since been cordoned off and officers are in pursuit of friends of the attacker to aid in probe.
