70 cartons of illicit liquor nabbed in Nyahururu

As the war on illicit liquor continues, police officers in Nyahururu on Wednesday night nabbed over 70 cartons of suspected second generation brews in one of the outlets within the town.

According to an eyewitness, police officers, who were acting on a tip off from members of the public, stormed the business premises only to find the illicit liquor displayed on the shelves.

Nyahururu Sub County Deputy Administration Police Commander Ambrose Karugu and Laikipia Maendeleo Ya Wanawake (MYWO)  Vice chairperson Irene Wachuka led the operation and destroyed the brew during the 9:30 pm incident.

Speaking after the exercise, Karugu applauded members of the public for the information and encouraged them to continue supporting the security agencies in the fight against illicit brews and crime in the area.

On her part, Ms Wachuka called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to give a blacket ban on Wines and Spirit to ensure that illicit brews are eradicated once and for all.

Just a week ago, over 2,000 boxes of second-generation liquor were destroyed in Nandi County by officers from the administration police following the death of four people in the previous week.

An interdepartmental operation comprising of officers from provincial administration, administration police, Nandi County public health officers and liquor officers netted wines and spirits at Kimondi trading centre in Nandi Central Sub-County.
