70yr-old quack doctor arrested in Rarieda over woman’s death

A 70-year-old quack doctor arrested for prescribing wrong drugs that led to the death of a 21-year-old woman in Rarieda sub-county.

Samuel Okumu is accused of administering the wrong drugs to Penninah Atineo Arembe who died moments after she was injected at Ginga village in Kagwa sub location.

According to Rarieda sub-county Police Commander Thomas Ototo, they got a report from the area Assistant Chief Samuel Gwege that the woman died after she was injected with adrenaline.

He told Radio Ramogi that the woman was asthmatic and so the suspect was called to help her since he had been known to be treating people in the village.

Mr. Ototo stated that a few minutes after administering the drug on her, the woman died before the police were called to the scene.

Police have moved the body to Madiany sub county hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations begin.

Mr. Ototo stated that Okumu was arrested and locked up at Aram police station.

The police boss has urged members of the public to be visiting licensed health facilities when they fall seek rather than resorting to services from unqualified personnel.
