Police have launched investigations into the death of a 75-year-old woman who was murdered and her body dumped one kilometre away from her home at Kiandegwa village in Mwea West, Kirinyaga county.

Confirming the incident, Wamumu Location Chief Geoffrey Mithamo said none of her family members was in her compound when the incident occurred.

According to the chief, the woman is suspected to have been raped before being strangled to death.

“We suspect they raped and killed her before dumping the body here,” Mithamo said.

The woman’s son said he was informed of the incident by a neighbour, adding that he was shocked as he had spoken with his mother the previous day.

“I was shocked because we had a discussion with her yesterday (Sunday) at about 4pm,” Muthie said.

Detectives from Sagana Police Station arrived at the scene at around 12.30 pm on Monday and reported that the deceased was strangled to death.

The body of the late was taken to Karira Mission Hospital Mortuary in Mwea as investigations continue.
