8 candidates to duel for Machakos senator seat

The race for the Machakos senatorial seat left vacant by the late Boniface Kabaka has taken a new twist after two more candidates joined the already crowded race.

Grand Dreams Development Party (GDDP) unveiled National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Finance Director Simon Kioko Kitheka while Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) fielded activist, Lily Nduku Mwanzia.

The duo joins other competitors: Maendeleo Chap Chap’s (MCC-P) John Mutua Katuku, Agnes Kavindu Muthama of Wiper and United Democratic Alliance party’s (UDA) Urbanus Ngengele.

GDDP’s Simon Kitheka- a businessman and a former school principal- said he is the best candidate for the job, saying he will champion the interests of the county in the Senate.

While receiving his nomination certificate, Kitheka asked the other candidates to brace themselves for a ‘bruising battle’

Kangundo MP Fabian Muli who is also the GDDP’S party leader expressed confidence in Mr. Kitheka saying that the County will reap big from his immense experience in financial management.

Elsewhere, CCU Secretary General Phillipe Sadjah said that the party is keen on recapturing the seat initially held by their fallen party leader.

He said that the party will activate its grassroot systems to bring a win at home.

Although CCU is one of the parties that agree with Deputy President William Ruto’s hustlers’ ideology, it is expected to go head-to-head with UDA in the looming by election.

Others who have expressed interest are; University don, John Musingi of Muungano party and an independent candidate Gilbert Maluki.
