8 Dead In Fresh Alshabaab Attacks In Mandera

The Alshabaab militia has also claimed responsibility for the attack which has left several other people injured.

The injured victims have been transferred to Nairobi for further treatment.

Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo on Monday said the gunmen commandeered the vehicles towards Somali before setting one of them on fire.

Kimaiyo added security officers pursued the attackers prompting a fierce gun battle at a place called Omar Jilo near the Kenya-Somalia border.

The police boss further confirmed that as a result of the attack, two police officers, three Kenya Police Reservists and two civilians have gone missing.

An operation is however underway to locate them.

Elsewhere 3 people have been killed and 3 others injured in Takaba, Mandera County following renewed clashes between Degodia and Gare communities.

Mandera which boarders Ethiopia to the North and Somalia to the East has had an immense security cost to the county.

While Somalia is home to the Alshabaab militants who often cross the border and cause havoc in Mandera, Ethiopia is said to be a hide-out to some militia who have been involved in clan based attacks.
