Eight students of Kisii Boys High School, who were arrested last week for allegedly burning down the school dormitory, have been charged with arson.

Appearing before Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate Ezekiel Obina on Monday, the eight suspects denied the charges and were released on a Ksh 50,000 cash bail or a Ksh.200,000 bond with a similar surety.

The eight are accused of jointly, willfully and unlawfully setting ablaze a dormitory valued at Ksh.6,998,278.

The magistrate directed the prosecution to supply witness statements to the lawyers who will be representing the accused persons.

The case will be mentioned on August 20, 2018 while the hearing date was set for December 3, 2018.

The accused were arrested after a scrutiny of CCTV footage that implicated them in the fire incident.
