8-month-old baby among 259 new positive coronavirus cases in Kenya

An 8-month-old baby is among 259 new positive cases of the novel coronavirus cases in Kenya, taking the total number of infections to 6,070.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, addressing the press at Afya House during the daily COVID-19 briefings on Sunday, said 2,718 samples were tested in the country within the last 24 hours.

The 259 patients include 256 Kenyans and three foreign nationals composed of 159 males and 100 females with the oldest being 92 years old.

The case distribution according to counties is: Nairobi (127), Mombasa (39), Kiambu (22), Machakos (16), Busia (11), Makueni (9), Nakuru (9), Uasin Gishu (9), Kilifi (5), Kajiado (3), Kisumu (2), Lamu (2), Garissa (2), Marsabit (2), Kwale (1).

The 127 cases in the Nairobi Metropolitan area were recorded in such areas as: Westlands (31), Dagoretti North (22), Makadara (12), Embakasi East (11), Lang’ata (11).

Mombasa’s infections were confirmed in Likoni (13), Mvita (8), Changamwe (7), Jomvu (6), Nyali (4).

Dr. Mwangangi also said 35 patients were discharged from various health centers countrywide, hence the tally of recoveries now stands at 1,971.

Two more patients however succumbed to the disease, taking the number of fatalities to 143.
