8 year old assaulted by stepmother

A class two female pupil from Nakuru is nursing injuries at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Nakuru branch after she was assaulted by her stepmother.

The eight year old girl sustained injuries on her back and lower limbs after she was allegedly beaten for failing to clean her socks and the house they live in with the stepmother.

According to Dr. Phillip Gacheru, the manager in charge of the hospital, the girl sustained injuries on her lower limbs, fingers and on her back inflicted by a blunt object.

The medic said that the child will be discharged in three days but will be handed over to the children’s department for custody.

The girl’s father, who married the second wife after his first wife died of diabetes, says they have been living peacefully and that this was the first time he had witnessed the girl having been punished to that extent.

The girl’s stepmother has since gone into hiding.

Police have launched a manhunt for her and investigations into the matter.
