80 patients to receive free treatment by neurosurgeons in Kisumu

Eighty patients will receive treatment in a free medical camp set to begin on Monday during a neurosurgery exercise at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu County.

The hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Peter Okoth said a team of neurosurgeons from the developed world will camp at the hospital to offer free surgeries to the patients.

The 10-day medical camp was organized by neurosurgeons from Nyanza region who have been working overseas as part of giving back to the society.

”Cases of neurology, a medical condition, is rampant in Western Kenya region and shortage of neurosurgeons has made it difficult to provide the much needed medication, ”said Dr. Okoth.

Other ailments to be addressed during the 10-day exercise include spinal trauma, arising from accidents or fall, cases of brain and spinal tumors.

Okoth added that children born with Hydrocephalus a condition that affects the brain causing it to enlarge due to build up of fluid would also receive treatment.
