83-year-old granny pleads guilty to possession of Ksh.500 bhang

An 83-year-old grandmother on Thursday pleaded guilty to charges of being in possession of 600 grams of bhang worth Ksh.500.

Lydia Mumbi, a banana vendor was arrested on Wednesday in Tetu, Nyeri County allegedly concealing the drugs in her banana bag. It was further alleged that she was trafficking the drug to her son to sell to the youth in that area.

Mumbi pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nelly Kariuki who ruled that she be held at she remains in custody until Monday when her case will be heard.

The area assistant chief John Waruru said the businesswoman has been under surveillance for a long time and was finally arrested with the drug.
