9 Charged Over Fake Passports, Visas

The suspects were arrested yesterday when the syndicate was smashed.

The nine suspects alleged to be in a fake passport and visa cartel were arrested last night after months of investigations.

29 fake passports and visas, laptops, printers and a lamination machine were recovered by police during the raid

The cartel is believed to be operating from Ngara, Nairobi.

The suspects include 3 Ethiopians, 2 Somalis and 2 Bangladeshi, some of whom were arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The nine are accused of aiding foreigners to get the travel documents illegally.

Reports allege that they may have been working with immigration officials.

Police have been undertaking investigations at the Immigration Department, targeting officials involved in the issuance of travel documents unprocedurally, risking the country’s security.

The security operations come in the wake of terror threats in the country.
